Where is Trent Lakes?

Trent Lakes is a rural municipality located within Peterborough County. It is a 2-hour drive from Toronto and a 4 hour drive from Ottawa, making it an ideal tourist destination for visitors in either direction looking to get away from the city landscape.

Who is in Trent Lakes?

As of 2021, Trent Lakes had a population of 6,439.

Over recent years, Trent Lakes is seeing a change in its population and is moving from a cottage-based population to one that is attracting a greater number of full-time residents. 

The median age in Trent Lakes is 58, significantly higher than Ontario’s median age of 41, with 33.7% of the population 65+.

The majority of the area is composed of properties with beautiful cottages nestled upon our many small lakes, along with small towns bordering the Municipality with an assortment of restaurants, retail businesses, parks, beaches and more for residents and visitors to enjoy year-round.

Buckhorn and the Trent Severn Waterway

Buckhorn is one of only nine communities that run right along the Trent Severn Waterway, making it a designated Trent-Severn Trail Town. Visitors can moar at Lock 31 by boat or paddle craft, and be walking distance from the charming hamlet of Buckhorn. 

Lock 31 is one of the busiest locks on the Trent Severn Waterway. Along the main stretch of Buckhorn, you will find an assortment of restaurants, locally owned retail businesses, and a park and playground along the water.

Stop in at the Buckhorn Tourist Centre, where friendly staff will be able to tell you anything you want to know about the area, including Sandy Lake Beach, a popular spot just up the hill.

Kinmount

In Kinmount you will find a tight-knit community and unique tourist stops.

Every year on Labour Day weekend, the local agricultural society hosts the Kinmount Fair. The fair offers something for everyone, with agriculture and equestrian shows, live entertainment, the midway, Kiddyland, and more!

In the summer, visitors come from all over to experience the infamous Highlands Cinema, a movie theatre in the middle of cottage country. 

Kawartha Highlands Provincial Park

Kawartha Highlands Signature Site is the largest park in southern Ontario after Algonquin Provincial Park.

It is a special place with opportunities to experience the outdoors ranging from backcountry canoeing and camping to a short hike.

Kawartha Highlands is open all year long, for backcountry adventures in any season.
