Pecuniary Interest Guidelines
All members of Council, local boards and committees must be honest and responsible when making decisions or giving advice. This obligation includes the disclosure of pecuniary interest.
A pecuniary interest refers to a situation where a member has a direct or indirect conflict related to a matter they are considering. You can find a full explanation of direct and indirect pecuniary interests in the Municipal Conflict of Interest Act (MCIA).
Disclosing a conflict of interest
A member of council or a committee must determine whether they are affected by the pecuniary interest provisions. All members must submit their disclosures in writing to the Clerk. This must be done after the meeting where they verbally disclose the pecuniary interest.
Complaints
If you believe that a member of Council or a local board or committee has violated the MCIA, you may file a complaint with the Integrity Commissioner
