During the Peterborough County Community Recognition Awards last evening, Trent Lakes Mayor Terry Lambshead had the pleasure of presenting resident Bruce Averill with an award for Leadership in Arts and Culture.
In 2023, Bruce Averill developed a youth performing arts improvisation program for Trent Lakes youth. The program is offered out of the Lakehurst Community Hall and serves the youth of Trent Lakes.
Currently, there are 18 classes which are run through Trent Lakes Academy of Performing Arts. On top of this program, Bruce has also initiated after school improv classes for youth at the Buckhorn Public School.
Earlier this year, the Municipality of Trent Lakes approved the construction of an outdoor armourstone amphitheater at the Lakehurst Community Hall, which should be completed by the end of 2024. This theater will allow greater space for new programming in the arts. Bruce was instrumental in the development of this project.
Bruce is being recognized for his initiative and desire to engage the youth of Trent Lakes and provide a safe space for them to develop and realize their potential.
Bruce was recognized among other residents in Peterborough County for their achievements and dedication to their communities.
Congratulations Bruce. Well deserved!
