If any wild animal is posing an immediate threat to public safety, call 911.

Who and When to Call

Call 911 if a Bear:

  • Follows people or lingers at a site.

  • Enters a school yard while school is in session.

  • Tries to enter a residence.

  • Attacks livestock or pets.

Police will respond to the situation, and may request assistance from the Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry.

Call Ontario’s Bear Wise Reporting Line at 1-866-514-2327 if a Bear:

  • Is roaming away from the public and checking garbage cans.

  • Breaks into a shed where garbage or food is stored.

  • Is in a tree.

  • Moves through backyards and fields.

Tips and Tools to be Bear Wise

Landowners are responsible for preventing problems with coyotes by limiting attractants and discouraging them from damaging your property.

You may not use poisons or adhesives to kill, capture or injure coyotes, including to protect your property.
