Plowing and sanding operations take place throughout the winter months. These operations are performed in response to weather events and road conditions. Weather events and road conditions are monitored regularly. This ensures roads are maintained in accordance to the Provincial Minimum Maintenance Standards
It takes an average of eight to ten hours to plow the roads after the snow has stopped.
Maintenance vehicles:
- There are nine snow plow routes that are maintained with a tandem truck.
- There are four snow plow routes that are maintained with a pickup truck equipped with a plow and sander.
- There are three Forepersons who perform regular patrolling throughout the Municipality.
The Public Works Department conducts its operational activities in a safe, efficient and effective way. We want to ensure we provide safe driving conditions on all roads owned and maintained by the Municipality.
How you can help
Please consider the following:
- Be patient. It takes an average of eight to ten hours to plow the roads after the snow has stopped
- Do not park on Municipal roads and turnarounds in the winter season. This can create a safety hazard for our drivers and the travelling public
- Do not deposit snow on Municipal or County roads. This can create a safety hazard and is an offence under the Highway Traffic Act
- During significant weather events, if you don't need to travel stay at home until the roads are plowed.
Please contact the County of Peterborough for all County Road related concerns and inquiries.
