The Finance Department ensures accountability through budgeting, accounting and reporting on municipal financial transactions. Each year, the Municipality of Trent Lakes creates an operating and a capital budget outlining the services and projects to be completed in the year. The budgets also set the tax rates for the year.
The Municipality of Trent Lakes is seeking feedback from the public as part of their 2025 budget considerations.
The Municipality of Trent Lakes provides services to the community based on an annual Operating and Capital budget. Input from the community is a vital part of the budget planning process.

These statements tell the story of our financial position at the end of each calendar year. An outside firm audits them on an annual basis to ensure accuracy. The Municipality will publish the previous year's statement in May.

Financial information return |
The Municipality is legally required to submit a financial information return (FIR) to the Province of Ontario every year. The province uses the FIR to collect information on all municipalities within Ontario. |
Asset management plan |
The Strategic Asset Management Policy sets the framework for undertaking asset management in a structured, coordinated way. The Asset Management Plan helps the Municipality of Trent Lakes make the best possible decisions regarding the construction, operation, maintenance, renewal, replacement, expansion and disposal of infrastructure assets while minimizing risk and cost to taxpayers and maximizing service delivery. The Plan is based on current available data and information on core services and is a living document requiring continuous updates and improvements with ongoing data collection programs. |
Energy conservation and demand management |
The Province of Ontario has introduced the Green Energy Act, 2009. This legislation requires municipalities, among other public sector groups (schools, hospitals, etc.), to prepare an Energy Consumption and Greenhouse Gas Emissions Report annually. In addition the Municipality must also prepare an Energy Conservation and Demand Management Plan on a minimum, five (5) year frequency. |
