February 7, 2024 [TRENT LAKES, ON] - Fifteen community organizations and volunteer groups received a grant from the Municipality of Trent Lakes at the January 25, 2024 Council meeting, totaling at over $50,000 of funds distributed.
The municipality supports community non-profit organizations and volunteer groups annually by awarding funding through its Community Grant program. Funding provided aims to improve the quality of life for its residents by going towards projects and programs that support the community.
“In the past 10 years, the municipality has been able to provide over 180 grants to organizations and groups through this program,” says Donna Teggart, CAO and Treasurer for the Municipality of Trent Lakes.
This year, a total of $57,469 was distributed into the community:
Buckhorn and Area Lion's Club received $480.
Buckhorn Community Centre received $20,000.
Buckhorn District Tourist Association received $3,300.
Community Care (Buckhorn office) received $6,400.
Galway Hall Board received $6,005.
Greater Harvey Historical Society received $4,644.
Kawartha Lake Stewards Association received $760.
Kawartha Land Trust received $2,580.
Kinmount Agricultural Society received $6,000.
Kinmount Pickleball Club received $1,500.
Oakshores 50+ Club received $1,200.
Royal Canadian Legion John McGrath Branch 441 received $1,300.
Santa's Elf Patrol received $1,100.
Trent Lakes Outreach Centre received $1,000.
Trent Lakes Recreation Association received $1,200.
“The Buckhorn Community Centre (BCC) is delighted to have received this grant,” says Margaret Roberts, President of the Board of Directors at the BCC. “The BCC values the Municipality of Trent Lakes’ support, and we plan to use the funds to meet the needs of residents by expanding our programs for children, youth, adults and families.”
Projects that will be funded this year include (but are not limited to):
Hiring a sports program instructor.
Planting fruit trees.
Purchase of sound equipment for public events.
Purchase of goods for the local food bank.
Public trail maintenance.
“Art in the Park” tourism event.
Home support for seniors.
The program is open for applications each year between November to January. The applications are brought forward to Trent Lakes Municipal Council, where they use an evaluation matrix to help determine which organizations are awarded and how to fairly distribute the funds.
“Trent Lakes is very fortunate to have many residents who volunteer their time and energy to make our community stronger and better," says Carol Armstrong, Deputy Mayor for the Municipality of Trent Lakes. “They help those less fortunate and in need, they strengthen our economy, they protect and preserve our environment and heritage, and they support activities for our youth and seniors.
