The Municipality of Trent Lakes staff will be carrying out a sign removal event across the Municipality during the week of November 6-10, 2023. All unpermitted advertising signs will be removed.
The decision for the initiative comes after an increase in resident complaints about advertising signs placed on Municipal roads, causing visual obstruction while driving.
“We will be removing as many signs as possible during this initiative,” says Donna Teggart, CAO and Treasurer with the Municipality of Trent Lakes. “Staff have previously removed unpermitted signs throughout the year, however the owners tend to put up replacements shortly after. We hope with this mass removal and continued enforcement, we can reduce the issue.”
Under the Trent Lakes Municipal By-law, no person may erect, alter, attach, place or display a sign without a permit. Limited exceptions apply.
If the sign owners fail to remove their signs by November 6, or choose to replace the removed sign afterwards, they will be directly contacted and notified of the penalties they will face under the by-law.
Residents that would like to report a location for sign removal may contact the Municipality by emailing info@trentlakes.ca or calling 705-738-3800.
