This new by-law outlines the increase of planning fees and newly created fees for planning applications and services.
Why did the Municipality increase the fees?
The Municipality of Trent Lakes has retained the same planning application fees for approximately 10 plus years, which no longer reflects the current economy.
The Municipality deemed it necessary to increase fees for planning applications and services to better reflect the annual costs to the Municipality.
How did the Municipality decide the increased amount?
Staff underwent a review process to determine the fee increase. As part of this review, Planning staff monitored the actual cost of all planning applications. Staff also examined other municipal planning services provided such as letters of compliance, zoning confirmation letters and agreements to ensure that the Municipality is recovering the costs associated with these requests.
Staff also compared planning application fees for all the lower tier municipalities within the County of Peterborough.
When will the fees increase?
● Interim fees are now in place for the remainder of 2024.
● Fees will be subject to full increase at the beginning of 2025.
● There will be a yearly increase by the Consumer Price Index (CPI) up to a maximum of 2% and rounded to the nearest dollar, starting in 2026.
The Consumer Price Index (CPI) represents changes in prices as experienced by Canadian consumers. It measures price change by comparing, through time, the cost of a fixed basket of goods and services.
