The Municipality of Trent Lakes is partnering with Cornwall/ Ottawa based company, Food Cycle Science to pilot an on-site food waste diversion solution that will reduce the amount of organics material that goes into the waste stream.
To reduce the amount of organic material going to the landfill, Trent Lakes will provide 150 FoodCycler units at a subsidized price for residents. Each resident will track the amount of food waste they have diverted throughout the pilot duration to estimate the total impact of the pilot program.
This program had broad support from council and administration and was based on other successful pilot programs run by Food Cycle Science across Canada. The program will also benefit from funding received by Food Cycle Science through the Impact Canada Food Waste Reduction Challenge.
The cost to participating residents will be $169.50 which compares favourably to a retail price of $500+HST. The reduction in cost is due to municipal discounts from Food Cycle Science, Impact Canada Investment, and subsidization by the Municipality of Trent Lakes.
To participate in this initiative and purchase a FoodCycle unit, you will be required to register and registrations will be on a first-come, first served basis. Registration opens on Thursday, September 30, 2021 at 9:00 a.m.
On Thursday, September 30, 2021 at 9:00 a.m., residents can register online using the link that will be provided on our website and Facebook page.
More information on this pilot program can be found on this information handout and on our Waste Diversion Programs page.
