Pot holes

Letting us know about a pothole can help speed up the repair process. We have patrol staff that inspect the condition of road. 

Report an issue

Pothole repair is performed year-round to meet provincial standards. Potholes are repaired on a priority basis, depending on the:

• Type of road
• Volume of traffic
• Size of the pothole

Road sweeping and dust control

Street sweeping begins in the spring to help remove debris and winter sand residue. We apply calcium chloride to gravel roads at the beginning of June to help with dust control.

Grading

Each year, the municipality maintains its gravel roads by grading them as required in order to extend the life of the road. Grading a road smooths out the surface and helps pack the base down further to keep the proper shape, height and angles of the road.

Fresh gravel is applied when needed.

Hardtop maintenance

The Municipality has a five-year surface treatment maintenance plan. The roads identified in the plan are scheduled for resurfacing. This process involves applying surface treatment on top of existing surface treatment.

Surface treated roads throughout the Municipality are patched as necessary.

Roadside brushing

Brushing and tree trimming work occurs throughout the year. This work is completed when branches block road signs and obstruct visibility.

Roadside mowing

Grass cutting on roadsides occurs twice per year. Roadside mowing helps improve site lines.

Culvert and ditch maintenance

Culvert and ditching work is completed throughout the year as needed. Removal of garbage and cleaning and maintenance of ditches ensures that water is able to flow freely through ditches and culverts. This helps to provide adequate drainage.

Signs

Roads signs such as stop signs, speed limit signs and warning signs are installed, replaced and maintained as required.

Plowing and sanding

Plowing and sanding operations take place throughout the winter months. These operations are performed in response to weather events and road conditions. Weather events and road conditions are monitored regularly. This ensures roads are maintained in accordance to the Provincial Minimum Maintenance Standards.

It takes an average of eight to ten hours to plow the roads after the snow has stopped.

Maintenance vehicles:

• There are nine snow plow routes that are maintained with a tandem truck.
• There are four snow plow routes that are maintained with a pickup truck equipped with a plow and sander.
• There are three Forepersons who perform regular patrolling throughout the Municipality.

The Public Works Department conducts its operational activities in a safe, efficient and effective way. We want to ensure we provide safe driving conditions on all roads owned and maintained by the Municipality.

How you can help

Please consider the following:

• Be patient. It takes an average of eight to ten hours to plow the roads after the snow has stopped
• Do not park on Municipal roads and turnarounds in the winter season. This can create a safety hazard for our drivers and the travelling public
• Do not deposit snow on Municipal or County roads. This can create a safety hazard and is an offence under the Highway Traffic Act.
• During significant weather events, if you don't need to travel stay at home until the roads are plowed.

Snow removal

In many cases snow can be managed within the existing road allowance. When snow accumulation reaches a maximum where it obstructs traffic flows or sightlines, snow will be removed.

Ice blading

Ice blading is performed on gravel roads to prevent excess buildup of snow and ice on the gravel surface.
